Fusion Sports Massage – Lower Extremity
Course Description
Fusion Sports Massage is a principle-based approach to manual therapy that focuses not only on what therapists do, but on how and why they do it. Rather than simply adding more techniques to your repertoire, this course explores the principles that determine how effective every technique can become. Through a deeper understanding of force organization, body mechanics, pressure control, movement quality and clinical reasoning, participants learn to deliver treatment that is more precise, more efficient and more effective.
This two-day practical course applies these principles to the assessment and treatment of the lower extremity. Rather than teaching techniques in isolation, every practical application is presented within a structured framework that develops understanding, control and confidence, helping therapists refine both their technical skills and the quality of their touch.
The course combines clear theoretical concepts with extensive hands-on practice, allowing participants to integrate each principle into a coherent treatment approach. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on therapist body mechanics, seamless transitions, pressure regulation, treatment flow and the practical application of these concepts in clinical practice.
Whether you work with athletes, active individuals or everyday clients, Fusion Sports Massage – Lower Extremity provides practical strategies to enhance treatment quality while helping you work with greater precision, confidence and long-term physical efficiency.
Course Content
Treatment Techniques and Application
- Practical massage techniques for the lower extremity, including work in prone, supine and side-lying positions
- Functional assessment and observation to help guide treatment choices
- Integration of movement, mobilisation and assisted stretching within massage treatment
- Positioning and movement of the client to improve access, effectiveness and treatment possibilities
- Adapting techniques and pressure to different clients, treatment goals and tissue responses
- Building coherent treatment sequences rather than applying techniques in isolation
Principles of Execution
- Developing a deeper understanding of the biomechanical principles that underpin effective body mechanics and their application in massage.
- Exploring how force is generated, transferred, directed and controlled, and how this influences therapist efficiency and treatment quality.
- Pressure control and the principles that influence its application
- Exploring different ways of increasing and modifying the intensity of a technique
- The use of different contact surfaces and how their selection influences the quality and purpose of a technique
- Understanding the role of transitions, rhythm and timing as key elements in creating continuity and treatment flow
- Refining the quality of touch through greater awareness, intention and sensory feedback
Teaching Approach
The course is predominantly practical, with theoretical principles introduced through demonstration and immediately explored through hands-on practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding the reasoning and mechanics behind each application so that participants can adapt what they learn to their own treatments rather than simply reproduce a fixed routine.

Slav MarinovSlav Marinov is an internationally recognised massage expert and educator with more than 25 years of experience in the health, fitness and manual therapy industries.
His professional journey began in Bulgaria, where he studied at the National Sports Academy in Sofia and worked in personal training and physical therapy before moving to London in 2003. Since then, he has built an extensive career in massage therapy, including 18 years working within one of London’s leading private members’ sports club.
Slav’s approach to massage has been shaped by decades of hands-on practice and a continuous interest in understanding not only which techniques work, but why and how they work. This led to the development of Fusion Sports Massage and an educational approach centered on body mechanics, pressure control, force application, movement quality, flow and the quality of touch.
Slav’s international achievements include the titles of European Champion and World Champion in Sports Massage, alongside multiple championship gold medals. A member of both the USA Massage Therapy Hall of Fame and the International Massage Association Hall of Fame, he now also serves as a judge at the World Championship in Massage.
Today, Slav teaches massage professionals internationally through courses, masterclasses and individual training, alongside his work as a consultant and educator within the luxury wellness and hospitality industry. What distinguishes his teaching is a perspective that considers the therapist as much as the client – not only what a technique does to the body receiving it, but how the therapist uses their own body to create it. His work places particular emphasis on movement, efficiency and the intelligent use of energy, helping therapists understand that the quality of a treatment depends not only on the techniques they choose, but also on how they themselves move, work and apply them.
